We call it “the cloud,” and picture something weightless. This week, people in southern India marching against a giant AI data centre reminded us what it really is: a scraped hillside, a drained water supply, a wild sanctuary next door, and a banner reading “we cannot drink data.” In this segment we look forward, calmly, at what it means that the intelligence we’re building has a physical body — one that has to sit somewhere, drink something, and displace someone — and why the fight over where AI lives may become one of the defining conflicts of the age.
